Fairbanks Youth Percussion Ensemble
Dr. Sean Dowgray (UAF) & Lucas Clooten (West Valley High School)
The Fairbanks Youth Percussion Ensemble (FYPE) is a performing arts ensemble aimed at giving participants the opportunity to perform unique repertoire and arrangements of various genres of music. FYPE specializes in music composed for percussion instruments and is open to middle shool and high school students.
Important Information for Participants:
ENROLLMENT - FYPE meets weekly in the fall and spring. Middle school and high school students are encouraged to participate in FYPE. Some previous percussive experience is preferred, however, if an individual does not have previous experience but is interested in participating, it is a possibility, and they should reach out to Dr. Dowgray at sdowgray@alaska.edu.
ATTENDANCE - Participants are expected to attend rehearsals regularly. Members should seek to miss no more than 3 rehearsals per season due to illness, emergency, or special circumstances. Participants should communicate absences with Dr. Dowgray at least 24 hours in advance of rehearsals excluding immediate emergencies. More than three unexcused absences per season may endanger the participant’s ability to perform in the end-of-the-semester concert.
REHEARSAL ETIQUETTE - Members are required to bring their music, folder (provided), and a pencil for note taking to each rehearsal. Late arrivals may be asked to sit out until the start of the next piece to avoid disrupting rehearsal. No food or drinks (except water) are allowed in any of the rehearsal rooms. Participants will not do homework, talk/disrupt rehearsal, or leave the rehearsal site during rehearsal hours.
CORE VALUES OF FYPE: Integrity, Equality, Future-Focused, Personal Responsibility, Community Driven, Standard of Excellence, Respect, and Communication.
